ReplyDeleteAndrew, my father might have said: "It takes a brave man to wear a hat that color". My father was a perceptive man.
ReplyDeleteThe hat is both symbol and metaphor and speaks volumes about the man wearing it. The owner of this hat opposes the words of politicians and salesmen and charlatans. He is a man in his element, slightly surprised by himself, but resolutely wanting more from life. His roots lie in disturbed soil; a traveller whose head is filled with spare, nomadic thoughts. I imagine he carries in his pocket a clasp knife for whittling bits of stick, the blade housed in its handle. Or perhaps that's too fanciful. The secrets he keeps are not meant to be easily uncovered.
